Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls in Overtime to Buffalo State
WILKES-BARRE - In an even matchup between the Colonels and the Bengals, Buffalo State ultimately came away with the 2-1 overtime win on Friday evening.
Buffalo State opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the second period, with a goal by Silva Miya. Miya's goal was assisted by Sydney Radecki and Sage Running Rabbit. The Colonels responded five minutes later with a goal by Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON), assisted by Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) and Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ). Running Rabbit of the Bengals scored the game winner in the first few seconds of overtime, with Sequoia Recollet-Nebenionquit recording the assist.
Bouchard led the Colonels in shots with seven total, followed by Ng with five and Bella Koczorowski with three. Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON) and Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT/) each recorded two blocks during the game and Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) had one. Pacilio went 12-17 on faceoffs and Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) went 9-13 while Laitinen was 5-7 and Rachel Morey (Clearmont, WY) went 5-6. In goal, Audrey Milne (London, ON) recorded 32 saves for a .941 save percentage.
The Colonels will be hosting the Bengals again tomorrow, Saturday, January 4, for a 3:30 p.m. puck drop at the Toyota SportsPlex.
