Offensive Explosion Lifts Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Over Buffalo State 6-1

WILKES-BARRE – Five different players scored as the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team scored six goals on way to a 6-1 non-conference victory over visiting Buffalo State University on Saturday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex, avenging a loss in the teams' first matchup a day ago.

Wilkes improved to 8-4 overall while Buffalo State fell to 4-8-1 on the season.

Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) got the scoring started for Wilkes taking a mishandled pass and skating down the length of the ice for a short-handed goal 14:10 into the first period. The lead grew to 2-0 before the first period horn sounded as Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) scored off assists from Milica Velcek (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chayce Hyndman (Mountain, ON) at 16:21.

The Colonels then put the game away in the second period scoring three unanswered goals including a pair of power-play goals from Nina Hudáková (Košice, Slovakia) at 2:28 and 11:00 respectively. Danielle Longuemare (Pembroke, MA/Portsmouth Abbey School) scored the other tally for Wilkes, an even strength strike with helpers from Rachel Morey (Clearmont, WY) and Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON). Morey also set the program record for games played in the process, reaching 93 games played in her four-year career in the Navy and Gold.

Buffalo scored its lone goal of the game 4:05 into the third period before Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) notched the final score for the Colonels off an assist from Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT/) at 6:34.

Audrey Milne (London, ON) made 21 stops to record the win in net for the Colonels.

Wilkes is back in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) action on Friday when the Colonels travel to Glenside, Pa. for a matchup with Arcadia University starting at 3:00 p.m.
