Wilkes Basketball Set to Host Juniata in Saturday Matchup

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to welcome Juniata to the Marts Center for a double header this Saturday. The Women's game will begin at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels picked up another conference win against Lycoming on Wednesday night, defeating the Warriors by a score of 86-72. This leaves them with a 13-5 overall record and 7-4 in conference play. 

Sitting at second in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 22.0 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 12th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 13.9 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.3 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in 10th with an average of 5.6 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is third in the Landmark with an average of 4.3 assists per game. Argento follows, averaging 2.7 assists per game and is ranked tenth in the conference. Lesko is second in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.3 per game and Argento leads the team in steals, averaging 1.4 per game.

The team averages 78.8 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .467 from the field, .327 on three point shot attempts and .664 from the free throw line. They are second in the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 39.1 per game. 

The Eagles enter the game with a 0-18 overall record and are 0-11 in conference play, most recently coming off a 80-63 loss against Elizabethtown. 

Leading the team in scoring is Ty Kocak who is averaging 9.6 points per game, followed by Mason Hardy with an average of 7.8 points per game. Kocak also leads in rebounds, averaging 4.6 per game and Hardy leads in assists with an average of 2.6 per game. Jayden Bilger leads the team in blocked shots, averaging 0.5 per game and Kocak leads in steals with an average of 1.5 per game. 

Offensively, the Eagles are averaging 54.6 points per game and are shooting .346 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .223 and from the free throw line they are shooting .661. In combined team rebounds, they are averaging 33.8 rebounds per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are currently 0-18 overall and 0-11 in conference play, coming off a close match against Lycoming where they fell 64-74. 

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked sixth in the conference with an average of 14.3 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.3 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, with Evanosky at a 7.9 rebound average per game and Matos at 7.3, leaving them at third and seventh in the conference. Evanosky is 11th in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) follows, with an average of 0.6 blocks per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.3 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 46.9 points per game, and are shooting .278 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .199 and from the free throw line they are shooting .643. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 36.6 rebounds per game. 

The Eagles will be entering the contest with a 6-12 overall record and are 3-8 in conference play. They are most recently coming off a 81-70 loss against Elizabethtown.

Haily Sherman leads the team in blocked shots with an average of 0.8 per game and Bodtorf leads in steals, averaging 2.6 per game. 

The Eagles are averaging 62.2 points per game and are shooting .375 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .248 and are shooting .744 from the free throw line. In combined team rebounds, Juiata is averaging 37.3 rebounds per game.
