Wilkes Women's Basketball Drops Contest Against Goucher

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's basketball team fell to Goucher to open their 2025 Landmark play on Wednesday night with a final score of 61-85.

Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) led the Colonels in points, recording 23 in the game, followed by Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) with nine. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) led in rebounds with 10, with Matos and Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) recording nine and six, respectively. Matos recorded three assists and Evanosky had two. Emma Stout (Bangor, PA/Bangor) recorded the team high in steals with three, and Matos, Evanosky, and Delaney Bogdan (Long Valley, NJ/Mendham) each recorded two steals apiece. Evanosky led in blocks with three and Robel had two. Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) added a block as well. 

The Colonels shot 27.3% from the field, 23.8% on three point shot attempts, and 72.2% from the free throw line. They recorded 16 points in the paint, eight off of turnovers, 16 bench points, and eight fast break points. The Colonels tied the score three different times, and had a strong first half, but ultimately fell to the Gophers. 

Wilkes women's basketball will be back in action on Sunday, January 12, when they face Elizabethtown at The Palestra with tip off set for 12 p.m.
