Wilkes Women's Volleyball Drops Home Tri-Match against Elizabethtown and Montclair State
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Women's volleyball dropped their seventh tri-match of the season Saturday afternoon against Elizabethtown College and Montclair State University, falling to the Blue Jays 3-1 and the Red Hawks 3-0.
Following the tri-match, Wilkes falls to 11-12 overall and 1-3 in conference. Elizabethtown moves to 13-7 overall and 1-1 in conference while Montclair State moves to 17-3 overall.
Game 1 vs. Elizabethtown College
The Colonels fell to Elizabethtown, three sets to one, to open today's tri-match. The Colonels posted a 10-2 and 8-2 run to quickly grab the lead in set one, but the Blue Jays answered back with a 10-2 and 4-1 run to finish the set 25-23. With momentum on their side, the Blue Jays held the lead for the second set, but the Colonels forced the game into extra points, and with two Colonel kills, ended the set 27-25. From there, Elizabethtown made quick work of the final two sets, taking set three 25-21 and set four 25-19.
Ally Sheridan (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) and
Mia Leon (Ponce, PR/Caribbean) led the Colonel attack with 14 kills a piece.
Maddy Durfee (Buffalo, NY/Attica) led the Colonels in assists, recording 32 for the match, a new season high. At the net,
Emilee Atherholt (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) posted four blocks, and Leon also led the passing game with 26 digs.
Game 2 vs. Montclair State
Wilkes dropped their second match of the day in three sets, falling to the Red Hawks 25-14, 25-15, and 25-21. As a team, Montclair state outhit Wilkes, recording a .190 attack percentage compared to -0.045 attack percentage. Leading in kills and blocks for the Colonels was Atherholt with five kills and two blocks. Sheridan led the passing game with 14 digs, as Durfee accumulated ten assists for the match.
Wilkes continues its stretch of home games on Tuesday, October 14, facing the Greyhounds of Moravian University at 7:00p.m.
