Wilkes Men's Soccer Bested by Drew University 2-1
MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team traveled to Ranger Stadium to take on Drew University Tuesday night, falling to the Rangers 2-1.
Wilkes falls to 1-9-4 and 0-3-2 in Landmark Conference play, while Drew improves to 8-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
The Colonels took the early lead in the eighth minute, as
Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School) finished off an
Elijah Emedoh-Kaba (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) shot that was saved by Ranger goaltender Donovan Friedhoff into the path of Mazzola who put the Colonels ahead.
Momentum swung in favor of the hosts in the 36
th minute as Anthony Ruggiero scored the equalizer to bring the game level at one. Less than a minute later, the Rangers took the lead on a goal from Matt Munoz.
Wilkes had five shots in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net again, falling to the Rangers 2-1.
Mazzola led Wilkes with three shots and two on goal, with Emedoh-Kaba collecting the lone assist.
Luke Ferrarese (Bel Air, MD/Calvert Hall College) also fired three shots for the Colonels. In goal,
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made six saves in 82 minutes of play, with
Landon Keller (Provo, UT/Timpview) finishing out the game.
Turkcan Curak led the Rangers with six total shots and four on goal. Ruggiero led the team with two goal contributions, one goal and one assist. In net, Friedhoff made four saves.
The Colonels return home to Bruggeworth Field this Saturday, October 18
th for Senior Day against Goucher College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
