Wilkes Field Hockey Defeated by Drew 2-0
MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes University field hockey team traveled to Ranger Stadium to face Drew University in a Landmark Conference clash Tuesday night, falling to the hosts 2-0.
Wilkes falls to 8-7 on the year and 3-2 in Landmark play, while Drew improves to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in conference.
The Colonel defense held off a hot start by the Rangers, with
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) making four saves in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Wilkes had an opportunity to take the lead on a penalty stroke by Lyddia Keppel, but the shot was wide. Less than a minute before halftime, the Rangers took the 1-0 lead with a rebound after a shot from the top of the circle.
Drew doubled the lead to begin the second half as Emily Capporino scored in the 31
st minute. The Colonels took four shots and had three penalty corner attempts in the second half but were unable to find the back of the cage before the final horn.
Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) and Keppel led the team with two shots each, with Morgan Hermanowski and Morgan putting shots on goal. In the cage, Gilroy made 10 saves for her sixth game with double-digit saves.
Fini led the Rangers with seven total shots and six on goal. Beth Kelly kept a clean sheet and made two saves.
The Colonels travel to Baltimore, Md. for their next contest, a Landmark matchup against the Gophers of Goucher College on Saturday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m.
