Although he didn't earn gold in any event, first-year Max Johnson (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg) earned top-three finishes in the three individual events he competed in. He started with second place finishes in both the 200 yard butterfly and backstroke, and finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke.
