Wilkes Women's Soccer Explodes for Six Goals in Senior Day Win Over Goucher
EDWARDSVILLE – Six different Colonels found the back of the net as the Wilkes University women's soccer team exploded for six goals on way to a 6-0 shutout Landmark Conference victory over visiting Goucher College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes improves to 5-5-5 overall and collects its first conference victory standing 1-2-3, Goucher dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-6 in league matches following the road defeat.
The Colonels scored early and often as
Abby Bolz (Fair Hill, MD/Rising Sun) took a pass from
Maggie Allen (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and drilled a shot to the back of the net just 2:43 into the match.
Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) followed with Wilkes' second goal taking a pass from
Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and depositing a shot in the goal to push the lead to 2-0 11:50 into the first half.
Straup then continued the scoring onslaught for the Colonels notching her team-high sixth goal of the season off an assist from Allen to make it 3-0 Wilkes.
Wilkes added three more goals in the second half as
Mia Black (Swarthmore, PA/Delaware Valley Friends School) scored her first collegiate goal at 57:40 and Hannah Denison added her second of the season at 66:00 to make it 5-0.
Lauren Lefchak (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) posted the assist on Black's goal and
Morgan Sweed (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) added the helper on Denison's tally.
Lefchak then finished off the Colonels scoring with her first of the season at 68:41 thanks to an assist from
Taylor Anthony (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex).
Wilkes held a 38-6 shot advantage throughout dominating play in its offense end. The Colonels garnered 15 penalty corners while holding Goucher to none in the match.
Ava Long (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) started in goal and played the first half making three saves.
Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) played the second 45 minutes of the match recording one stop.
Prior to the match, Wilkes honored its three seniors Anthony,
Kate Durig (Gambrills, MD/Mount de Sales) and Lefchak for all their hard work and dedication to the women's soccer program over their four year careers.
Wilkes returns to Landmark play Tuesday with a road match at the University of Scranton starting at 7:00 p.m.
