Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls at Scranton
SCRANTON, PA – Host University of Scranton broke open a scoreless game through one half scoring four unanswered goals in the second 45 minutes on way to a 5-0 Landmark Conference win over the Wilkes University women's soccer team Tuesday night at Weiss Field.
Wilkes fell to 5-6-4overall and 1-3-2 in Landmark matches. Scranton improved to 12-2-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in league play.
The teams went scoreless over the first 45 minutes with the Colonels holding their ground despite a strong Scranton offensive attack.
The Royals finally broke through in the 55
th minutes when Faith Sullivan scored her second goal of the season. Eight minutes later the lead grew to 2-0 thanks to a strike from Erin Farrell.
Scranton then tacked on two more goals in the 80:40 and 89:00 mark to secure the Landmark home victory.
Scranton outshot Wilkes 15-3 throughout with eight coming on goal. The Royals also garnered eight corner kicks to Wilkes' one attempt.
Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) started and played the first half making three saves in a goal-less outing.
Ava Long (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) played the second half for the Colonels.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday with a road match at Moravian University starting at 1:00 p.m.
