Two Second Half Goals Sink Wilkes Men's Soccer at Moravian
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After taking the lead late in the first half, the Wilkes University men's soccer team fell 2-1 against Moravian University at John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes falls to 1-12-4 on the year with the defeat and 0-6-2 in conference play, while Moravian improves to 8-5-4 overall and 4-1-3 against conference opponents.
Luke Ferrarese (Bel Air, MD/Calvert Hall College) fired Wilkes ahead in the 40
th minute with his first career goal, as he ripped a shot from the top of the box and into the back of the net off a quick pass from
Lorenzo Lici (Pavullo Nel Frignano, Italy/Camp Hill). A save from
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) a few minutes later kept the scoreline 1-0 Colonels going into the break.
The hosts equalized quickly at the start of second half, drawing level in the 49
th minute on a goal from Evan Hubert. Five minutes later, Enzo Petruzzelli put the Greyhounds in front. Ferrarese had two shots in the second half as the Colonels looked to tie the game, but were unable to find the back of the net again before the final whistle.
Ferrarese led Wilkes with four shots and two on goal. Lici had the lone assist, adding a shot of his own. In goal, a returning
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made six saves.
Three Greyhounds shared the team lead with two shots each, with Hubert tallying a goal and Sean Kirwin recording an assist. Casey Prajzner made one save between the sticks.
The Colonels close out the regular season on Tuesday, October 28 as they face Lycoming College on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
