Wilkes Field Hockey Falls to Moravian 1-0
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes field hockey team fell to Moravian Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium, after an early Greyhound penalty shot gave them the 1-0 lead.
After the match, Wilkes falls to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in conference, while Moravian improves to 6-11 overall and 2-6 in conference.
Moravian controlled the first quarter, outshooting Wilkes 7-4, with four of those shots being on goal, and earning five corners compared to Wilkes' two. Wilkes' defense managed to hold the Greyhounds scoreless, until a last second penalty shot from Maddie Snyder, lifted the Greyhounds to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Moravian managed to hold Wilkes scoreless through the rest of game despite the Colonels' offense putting up ten shots in the 2nd - 4th quarter, with eight of those being on goal. The Greyhounds managed to get off nine more shots, but couldn't find the back of the cage.
The Colonels were outshot by Moravian 16-14, but Wilkes fired off 12 shots-on-goal compared to Moravian's nine.
Maddie Karp (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) led the offense for Wilkes with six shots for the game, all being on-goal.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) was in the net all game for the Colonels, and recorded seven saves, only allowing one.
Maddie Snyder led the Greyhounds offense with six shots, with four of those being on-goal, and being the only Greyhound to score in the game. In goal for Moravian was Jessica Knox, and she had ten saves on the day, while Jordan Sponzo and Carolina Catilao-Sanchez each recorded a defensive save.
The Colonels prepare for their last game of the regular season and Landmark play on Wednesday, Oct. 29, as they travel to Lycoming College to face the Warriors at 7:00p.m.
