Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls to #5 Juniata College 3-0
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Wilkes women's volleyball team fell to #5 Juniata College, 3-0, at the Eagles' Memorial Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon.
After the loss, Wilkes drops to 14-14 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while Juniata improves to 22-2 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
The Eagles took an early 4-0 lead in the first set, and held that lead for the first half of the set until a 6-3 Colonel run tied the set at 13. Juniata pulled away with a 6-2 run, and posted a second 6-2 run to secure the set win, 25-18.
In set two, the Colonels fell behind once again 6-2, but with three straight Colonel kills from
Mia Leon (Ponce, PR/Caribbean),
Ally Sheridan (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area), and
Ava Wahlers (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport), Wilkes came within one-point of the Eagles (7-8). Juniata answered back with a 5-1 run, but an ace from
Kendra Kalp (Somerset, PA/Rockwood), and a kill from Leon kept Wilkes in the game. The Eagles put up a 7-4 run to pull ahead (21-15), and ended the set, 25-16, with four-straight points.
Both teams matched each other through the majority of the third set with the score tied 16-16. Sheridan was crucial in that time, recording four kills and a service ace to keep Wilkes in the game. The Eagles found their stride, and with a 9-1 run took the set win, 25-17.
Sheridan led the attack for Wilkes, recording ten kills for the Colonels.
Rachael Anderson (Canmore, AB/West Island College) led the passing game with nine assists with
Maddy Durfee (Buffalo, NY/Attica) right behind her with seven.
Mia Leon (Ponce, PR/Caribbean) led the Colonel defense with ten digs on the day.
Molly Mishinkash led the Eagles offense with ten kills, while Elizabeth Cleavland posted 17 assists, and Isabella Rushing posted 12 digs for the game.
The Colonels return to the Marts Center for their Dig Pink game against University of Scranton on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:00p.m.
