Two-Goal Third Lifts Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey to win at No. 14 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Two third period goals from Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School) and Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) lifted the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team to a season-opening victory at No. 14 ranked Cortland State Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

First-year Abby Bush (Ottawa, ON) opened her collegiate account at 6:52 in the first period, giving the Colonels the early lead after dangling the puck around goaltender Eline Gillodes.

Six minutes later, Cortland's Emma McLean responded to tie the game at one going into intermission, and at 7:35 in the second period netter her second of the day to give the Red Dragons their first lead 2-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

At 9:46 in the third period, Hudakova opened her season account to bring the Colonels level at two, finishing off the pass from Bouchard and Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON/). The Serbian international would then return the favor to Bouchard four minutes later, who rifled a shot across goal into the top corner to reclaim the lead 3-2.

Audrey Milne (London, ON) made two more saves in the final seven minutes of play to slay the Red Dragons, giving Wilkes the win over their ranked opponents.

Hudakova and Bouchard led Wilkes with a goal and an assist each, with the former firing off a team-high five shots. Ferry led the team with four blocked shots and also was the top Colonel in the faceoff circle going 8-for-16. Between the pipes, Milne made 34 saves.

McLean led Cortland with both goals, while Kira Cook had a team-high six shots. Ainsley Delacourt led the defense with three blocked shots, while Gillodes made 20 saves in goal for Cortland.

The Colonels return to the ice on Friday, November 7th as they open Middle Atlantic Conference play against King's College on the road at 7:00 p.m.
