Wilkes Women's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie at Juniata
HUNTINGDON, PA – The Wilkes University women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead with under seven minutes to play only to see host Juniata College answer back with a game-tying goal just 38 seconds later as the Colonels settled for a 1-1 tie in Landmark Conference action from Gibbel Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes moved to 4-4-3 overall and 0-1-1 in Landmark matches following the road tie. Juniata is now 4-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in league play.
After the teams played to a scoreless first 83 minutes,
Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) put the Colonels up with a goal off an assist from
Jess Shea (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) at 83:48.
Just 38 seconds later Gracie French tied the game when she found the back of the net off a helper from Kylie Dries.
Wilkes outshot Juniata 14-5 while garnering three corner kicks to Juniata's one attempt.
Ava Long (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with two saves in net for Wilkes. Emma Stiller made five saves in goal for the Eagles.
Wilkes continues Landmark play on Tuesday with a road matchup at Susquehanna University starting at 7:00 p.m.
