Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls Short to Lebanon Valley College in Overtime
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes women's ice hockey team fell short to Lebanon Valley College in overtime, falling to the Flying Dutchman 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Toyota Sportsplex.
The Colonels fall to 3-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play while Lebanon Valley improves to 5-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the MAC.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the first period as McKayla Romano found the back of the net just two minutes into the contest. The Dutchmen would then extend their lead to 2-0 as Romano picked up her second goal of the night with just 20 seconds left in the second period.
Wilkes opened the third period with an early goal as
Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic) scored in the 4th minute on a pass from
Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/). Pacilio then tied the game at two on a short-handed goal from
Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/), but Wilkes wasn't finished as
Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School) fired a shot past the Dutchman goalie to give Wilkes the 3-2 edge. The blue and gold fought off multiple shots from Lebanon Valley to hold their lead, but Addison Taylert snuck a puck past to force the game into overtime.
The Colonels started overtime in a power play and sent a flurry of shots at the Dutchmen goalie, but couldn't bury the puck. With the Dutchmen in control of the puck, Anna Dale found the back of the net to end the match in the Dutchmen's favor, 4-3.
The Colonels outshot Lebanon Valley 73 to 59. Bell led for Wilkes with seven shots on goal, one goal and finishing +1 on the night.
Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY/) and Pacilio controlled the faceoff circle each with eight wins.
Audrey Milne (London, ON) was in the box for Wilkes and ended the night with a .867 save percentage with 26 saves from 30 shots.
Romano led the Dutchmen with ten total shots, two goals, and finishing +1. Tiffany Anderson dominated the faceoff circle with 14 wins, and Mia Frisoni was given the win in goal for Lebanon Valley, ending the match with 35 saves and only allowing three goals.
The Colonels return to action Saturday, November 15, to face the Flying Dutchmen at the Toyota Sportsplex with puck drop set for 3:30 p.m.
