Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Lebanon Valley College 4-2
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes women's ice hockey bested Lebanon Valley College 4-2 with three first period goals this Saturday afternoon at the Toyota Sportsplex.
Wilkes improves to 4-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in conference while the Dutchmen pick up their first loss of the season and fall to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in conference.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring with an early first period goal from Tiffany Anderson, but Wilkes responded in the ninth minute with a power play goal from
Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic). A minute later,
Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) would find the back of the net to give Wilkes the advantage, 2-1. The Dutchmen's defense would fend off a flurry of shots from the Colonels, but Bell would bury the puck at the 15th minute on a pass from
Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/) to give Wilkes the 3-1 lead going into the second period.
The Colonels would fire ten shots toward the Dutchmen's net, but at 6:36
Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School) would get one past the goalie on a power play to extend their lead to 4-1. Lebanon Valley would score late in the second to push the score to 4-2 going into the third, but Wilkes' defense stopped the Dutchmen in their tracks allowing only eight shots on goal in the third period to finalize the game 4-2.
Hudakova led Wilkes with ten shots, seven on goal, and one goal on the night while finishing +1, as Bel finished with six shots on goal and two goals.
Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT) finished with one assist, two blocks, and +2.
Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY/) dominated the faceoff circle with 14 wins.
Audrey Milne (London, ON) was given the win, playing the full 60 minutes with 17 saves.
Anderson and Anna Dale were the two scorers for Lebanon Valley. Anderson, Dale, and Lauren Pennino each had five shots for the Dutchmen, and Anderson was 16-27 in the faceoff circle. Mia Frisoni was in goal for the Dutchmen, and allowed four goals on 50 shots from the Colonels.
The Colonels return to the ice on November 21, where they travel to Hood College to face the Blazers with puck drop set for 3:10 p.m.
