Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Bests Misericordia 2-1
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes men's ice hockey scored twice in the second period to defeat Misericordia at the Toyota Sportsplex this Friday afternoon.
With this win under their belt, the Colonels improve to 5-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the MAC while Misericordia falls to 0-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference.
After a scoreless first period,
Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 4:49 mark. The Colonels wasted no time as
Jack Lee (Naperville, IL) found the back of the net connecting on a pass from
Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) and
Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA/) to extend their lead to 2-0. Wilkes held onto its two-goal lead, but Misericordia cut the deficit to one with a timely goal midway into the second period. The navy and gold were able to hold their 2-1 lead for the final 20 minutes as Wilkes' defense held the Cougars to only nine shots in the third period.
The Colonels outshot Misericordia 45-26 while also dominating the faceoff circle winning 49 compared to the cougars 34.
Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) led with eight shots, while winning 3 of four faceoffs and picking two blocks in the match. Terski finished just behind him with five shots, one assist, and +1. Blomquist and Lee both finished with 4 shots, one goal and +2 on the night.
Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON/) played the full 60 minutes and earned the win for Wilkes with 25 saves for the match.
Corbin Scheibel led for the Cougars with six shots and went 4-7 in the faceoff circle. Zachary Micciche was second in shots with four on the night and three blocked shots, and Brendan Vettraino had the most faceoff wins for Misericordia going 10-22. In goal was Ayden Pierce who ended the night with 43 saves on 45 shots.
Wilkes returns to the Sportsplex Saturday, November 22, to face the Cougars with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m.
