Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Cruises Past Hood College with 8-0 Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes women's ice hockey team cruised past Hood College scoring eight goals to sweep the weekend series at the Sportsplex Saturday afternoon.

After Saturday's win, the Colonels improved to 6-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in conference while Hood fell to 1-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference.

Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) opened the scoring for Wilkes connecting on a pass from Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/) four minutes into the first period. Three minutes later Hanna Franz would find the back of the net scoring her first goal of the season. Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT) would then bury the puck to extend the lead to 3-0 going into the second.

Keeping the momentum on their side the Colonels would earn their first power-play goal of the night as Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY/) hammered it home. The navy and gold wasted no time as Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) earned her second goal of the night at 7:44 from Pacilio and Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic). Wilkes would send a flurry of shots at the Blazers, and at 17:35 Franz would earn her second goal of the night on a Wilkes power-play to double their score to six going into the third.

Wilkes would be kept at bay for the first half of the third period, but first-years Carissa Hann (Windsor, ON) and Delaney Howard (Pittsburgh, PA) would each pick up their first collegiate goals, scoring at 10:10 and 19:33.3 respectively.

Leading for the Colonels would be Franz, Howard, and Wierdsma all recording five shots, one goal, and finishing +3 on the night. Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) would lead in assists with three as well as finishing +3, and Pacilio dominated the faceoff circle going 13-18. Audrey Milne (London, ON) would play the full 60 in goal where she had 13 saves and was given the win.

Emily Cross led for the Blazers with four shots and one block, and Sofie Ancona was right behind her with three shots and going 2-5 in the faceoff circle. Ella Bynan was 11-22 in the circle, and Kamryn Sohner was given the loss with 36 saves while allowing eight.

Wilkes returns to action on Tuesday, December 2, where they travel to Elmira College for a non-conference matchup with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m.
