Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Takes Down Stevenson 3-0
The Wilkes women's ice hockey team defeated Stevenson 3-0 Friday afternoon to open the weekend series at the Sportsplex.
The Colonels improve to 7-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the MAC while Stevenson falls to 0-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play.
Wilkes came out hot to open the first period, firing off 12 shots before
Danielle Longuemare (Pembroke, MA/Portsmouth Abbey School) found the back of the net at 13:06 to open the scoring. The Colonels were able to get off nine more shots but Stevenson's back line held them to a 1-point difference going into the second period.
Carrying their momentum into the second, the blue and gold took advantage of the early power play as
Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) finished the pass from
Drew Hayhurst (Breckenridge, CO/New Hampton School) to make it 2-0. The Colonels wasted no time as Hayhurst recorded her second assist of the game when first-year
Delaney Howard (Pittsburgh, PA) clinched the third goal of the game. Wilkes held the Mustangs scoreless in the third to finalize the game 3-0.
Wilkes outshot the Mustangs 42-18 with
Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/) leading the attack for Wilkes firing off five shots, while also controlling the faceoff circle going 9-4 for the night, and finishing +1. Hayhurst finished just behind with four shots, two assists, and finishing +1.
Audrey Milne (London, ON) played the full 60 in net for Wilkes and recorded 18 saves.
Jalyn Jones recorded four shots and one block for the Mustangs while Emma DeMan went 11-19 in the faceoff circle. Maggie Sehnert played 58 minutes in the net for Stevenson where she had 39 saves and allowed 3 goals.
The Colonels return to the Toyota Sportsplex tomorrow at 4:50 p.m. to take on the Mustangs for their second match of the weekend series.
