SCRANTON, Pa. - The Wilkes University men's swimming team returned for the second day of competition at the Electric City Invitational Saturday morning, and currently remain in first place with one day remaining.

Wilkes stands alone at the top with 698 points, followed by SUNY Oneonta in second with 594 points. King's is in third place with 358 points, Lycoming remains in fourth place with 225 points, and Marywood rounds out the standing in fifth with 222 points.Â
The day began with the 500 yard freestyle and Max Johnson (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg) made history by taking home the top spot with a 4:58.29, a new school record by five seconds. Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest), Jack DeLuca (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy), and Josh Leonard (Athens, PA/Athens Area) also competed in the event and they all ranked inside the top six. Miller finished in third with a 5:16.14, DeLuca finished fifth with a 5:25.64, and Leonard finished sixth with a 5:28.95.
Next up was the 200 yard IM and Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) took home bronze with a time of 2:08.53. Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) and Maximilian Wilson (Manassas, VA/Seton) weren't too far behind as Smargiassi finished fifth with a 2:12.26, and Wilson finished seventh with a 2:14.54.
The Colonels continued their impressive showing with three top-10Â finishers in the 50 yard freestyle. Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) earned a fifth place finish with a 22.80, Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly) finished in eighth place with a 23.47, and Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) took home ninth place with a 23.54.
The last event of the second session was the 400 yard medley relay and the two teams Wilkes fielded finished inside the top three. The team of Piotrowski, Dainty, Smargiassi, and Tobias Misinay (Somerset, KY/Pulaski County) came in second place (3:47.48), and the team of Miller, Lewis, DJ Hammond (Stone Mountain, GA/Stephenson), and Joshua Robinson (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) came in third place (3:55.22).
Session three began with the 400 yard IM and Misinay and Smargiassi took home first and second place, respectively. Misinay won the event with a 4:41.34 and Smargiassi was right behind him with a 4:50.47.Â
The Colonels continued to stack up more points in the 100 yard butterfly as Hammond, Wilson, Leonard, and Donato all finished inside the top eight and combined for 52 points, and in the next three individual events Wilkes had a top-three finisher in all of them.
Miller finished second in the 200 yard freestyle with a 1:53.73, Dainty finished third in the 100 yard backstroke with a 56.84, and the trio of Misinay, Piotrowski, and Lewis swept the top three of the 100 yard breaststroke.
The final event of day two was the 800 yard freestyle relay, and the team of Johnson, Miller, Piotrowski, and Misinay brought home the gold for the Colonels with a time of 7:35.90.
The Colonels look to seal a first place finish in the final day of the Electric City Invitational starting tomorrow at 10 a.m.
