Johnson Named Landmark Athlete of the Week
TOWSON, Md. - Wilkes University men's swimming team first-year Max Johnson (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg) was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking performance over the weekend at the Electric City Invitational, as announced by the conference this afternoon.
This is the first time he's received the honor in his career.
Johnson broke three program records during the three-day invitational at Marywood University, and was a huge reason why the Colonels finished in first place overall with 957 team points, 147 more than the second place team.
On the first day he finished with a 17:28.91 in the 1650 yard freestyle, a new school record by 29 seconds, and on day two he broke the 500 yard freestyle record by five seconds with a 4:58.29. Lastly, he recorded a 10:33.39 in the 1000 yard freestyle, which broke the previous record by nearly six seconds.
Each of the previous records had stood at the top for over six years.
Johnson and the Colonels return to action one more time before the new year. The team travels to Misericordia on Saturday, Dec. 6 for a 1 p.m. tri-meet against the Cougars and the Roadrunners of Ramapo College.Â
