Four Power Play Goals Lift Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to 7-3 Win at Elmira College

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Four goals from the power play unit carried the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to a 7-3 victory over Elmira College Saturday afternoon at the Murray Ice Arena, closing out non-conference play for the 2025-26 season.

Wilkes improves to 7-1-2 with the win, while Elmira falls to 3-6-0 with the loss.

Wilkes opened the scoring four minutes into the first period, with Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) lighting the lamp to take the early lead. It wouldn't last long however, as the hosts responded less than a minute later and took the lead just before the end of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Colonels started the second period white hot, scoring two in the first three minutes of the frame. First it was Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI/) who equalized on a beautiful slapshot set up by Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/). Jordan then gave the Colonels the lead back on the power play 3-2. The Soaring Eagles tied the game again at the nine-minute mark, before Carlson's second goal put Wilkes ahead once more 4-3, their second of the day on the power play.

The Colonel power play unit scored their third goal of the day early in the third, as Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) scored on a pass behind the net from Carlson with just 1:51 off the clock. Jack Lee (Naperville, IL) added the fourth power play goal at 5:53, and Roginski put the final nail in the coffin at 9:23 to give Wilkes the 7-3 victory.

Wilkes' four power play goals match a single-game program record that has been achieved nine other times, most recently against Misericordia on January 3rd, 2025. The unit was 4-5 on the day.

Roginski and Carlson finished with two goals and one assist each, with Blomquist also totaling three points with one goal and two assists. Blomqvist and Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA/) each had two assists, a team high. Roginski led the offense with eight shots and six on goal. Between the pipes, Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON/) made 18 saves en route to the victory.

Makai Tarjamo led Elmira with nine total shots and five on goal, one of three Soaring Eagles to score in the game. Cameron Manley started the game in net and made 17 saves allowing four goals but was replaced in the third by Brody Haynes who made two saves and allowed three goals.

Wilkes returns to MAC play on Friday, December 5th to kick off a two-game series at Stevenson University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
