Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Opens Conference Schedule with 6-0 Win over King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes University men's ice hockey team began Middle Atlantic Conference play with a dominant 6-0 win over the King's College Monarchs Friday evening at the Toyota SportsPlex.

The win improves the Colonels to 2-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while the Monarchs drop to 0-1 overall.

Wilkes jumped out to an early lead on the power play when Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/) tipped in the first goal of the day off assists from Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) and Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) to make it 1-0 just seven minutes into the game.

It was still 1-0 at the first intermission, but in the second period the Colonels broke the game open. It took just over a minute into the period  for Miles Harrington (McDonough, GA/) to make it 2-0, and then back on the power play, Jordan netted his second goal of the game as Wilkes led 3-0 at the 12:46 mark. Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC/) scored Wilkes' final goal of the period on a counter-attack with some help from Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI/) and Liam O'Donoghue (Canonsburg, PA), making it 4-0 at the second intermission.

In the third period, the Colonels tacked on two more power play goals. The first came from Jack Lee (Naperville, IL) with 7:56 remaining, and the second came from Blomquist two minutes later to reach the final score.

It was a complete team effort for Wilkes as five different players found the back of the net. Jordan led the way with two goals and one assist, while both Harrington and Blomquist had one goal and one assist. Nau and Lee scored the remaining two goals. Roginski and Carlson each finished with two assists, and the trio of O'Donoghue, Tyler Boudreau (Edmonton, AB/), and Easton Stafford (Broomfield, CO/Colorado Connections Academy) each had an assist.

Goaltender Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON/) had a phenomenal game in net by saving all 29 shots from the Monarchs while playing all 60 minutes. The Colonels as a team outshot the Monarchs 42-29, won 64% of the faceoffs, and went 4-6 on the power play.

The Colonels return to the ice tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. against King's once again at the Toyota SportsPlex, looking to take the first two games of the three-game series.
