Wilkes Women's Basketball Drop Matchup Against Juniata
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's basketball team fell to Juniata at home this afternoon by a score of 56-68.
Leading the team in points was Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) with 27, followed by Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) with 12. Warren and Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) each recorded five rebounds and Matos led with two assists. Warren led the team in blocks, recording four throughout the game and Matos had the team high in steals, totaling six. Matos shot 9-16 from the field and 8-11 from the free throw line while Warren was 5-13 from the field and 2-5 from the free throw line.
The Colonels shot 20-28 from the field, 2-13 on three point shot attempts and 14-24 from the free throw line. They recorded 36 points in the paint, 23 off of turnovers, six second chance points, five bench points and eight fast break points. The Colonels took the lead nine times during the game, but were unable to maintain it after the third quarter.
The Colonels will be at home for their next match on Wednesday, February 5, against Scranton. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
