READING, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team defeated Alvernia University 6-3 at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex Saturday night, clinching the inaugural MAC women's ice hockey regular season championship.

The Colonels improve to 19-4-1 overall with a 17-2-1 record in MAC play, while the Golden Wolves fall to 13-9-2 with a 9-9-2 conference record.

The hosts opened the scoring in the first period with a goal inside the first three minutes. Wilkes answered back in emphatic fashion, scoring five unanswered goals. Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) lit the lamp first at 15:52 in the first period, with Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) adding another in the final minute to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Colonels then scored the only two goals of the second period, with Ainsley Wescott (Saco, ME/) and Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK/NAHA White) finding the back of the net to pull the Colonel lead out to 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia) made it 5-1 quickly, firing home the goal at 2:52 that gave the Colonels a 5-1 lead. The Golden Wolves added two more goals in the period, but Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) was the one to deliver the dagger with a sixth Colonel goal to seal the victory.

Kaczorowski led the Colonels with three goal contributions on a team-high five shots, scoring once and assisting twice. Zingaro also had one goal and two assists to match Kaczorowski. Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ) led from the faceoff circle going 10-15, while Audrey Milne (London, ON) made 18 saves in goal.
