Wilkes Basketball Set for Meeting with Moravian

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to face Moravian on Wednesday night. The men will be on the road and the women will be playing at home, with both games set to begin at 7 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are 17-6 overall and 11-5 in conference play, most recently defeating Elizabethtown 97-57 last Saturday on Senior Day.

Taking the top spot in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 21.3 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is ninth in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 15.1 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.5 per game and Eli Becker (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) sits in eighth with an average of 5.9 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.6 assists per game. Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) follows, averaging 2.4 assists per game and is ranked 14th in the conference. Lesko is second in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.3 per game and Becker leads the team in steals and is ninth in the conference, averaging 1.5 per game.

The team averages 79.1 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked third in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .477 from the field, .332 on three point shot attempts and .686 from the free throw line. They are second in the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 38.3 per game. 

Moravian enter Wednesday's contest with a 15-8 overall record and are 10-6 in conference play, having most recently defeated Lycoming 94-64 on Saturday.

Marquis Ratcliff leads the team in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game and leaving him ranked third in the conference. Ratcliff also leads in rebounds and is first in the conference, with an average of 8.6 rebounds per game. Porter Kelly leads in assists with an average of 3.0 per game and Ratcliff leads in blocked shots, averaging 2.0 per game while Chad Kratzer leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game.

Offensively, the Greyhounds are averaging 83.8 points per game and are shooting .447 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .359 and from the free throw line they are shooting .701. In combined team rebounds, they are averaging 37.7 rebounds per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are 0-23 overall and 0-16 in conference play, having most recently fallen to Elizabethtown on Saturday.

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 15.3 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.7 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, with Evanosky at a 7.2 rebound average per game and Matos at 6.7, leaving them at sixth and 10th in the conference. Evanosky leads the team in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) follows, also with an average of 0.7 blocks per game. Evanosky is also third in the conference in steals with an average of 2.9 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 47.9 points per game, and are shooting .287 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .204 and from the free throw line they are shooting .650. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 35.7 rebounds per game.

Moravian is currently 5-18 overall and 3-13 in conference play, most recently falling to Lycoming 63-57 this past Saturday.

Lizzie Lustig leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 point per game, while Lanie Herbert leads in rebounds with an average of 6.7 rebounds per game. Lustig also leads in assists with an average of 2.0 per game and Sam Osorio leads in blocked shots with an average of 0.6 per game. 

The Greyhounds are averaging 58.2 points per game and are shooting .352 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .267 and are shooting .643 from the free throw line. In combined team rebounds, Moravian is averaging 43.0 rebounds per game.
