Wilkes Women's Basketball Fall to Moravian in Wednesday Night Contest
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's basketball team dropped their final home game of the season on Wednesday night against Moravian. The Colonels fell to the Greyhounds by a score of 59-84.
Following the first quarter, the Colonels narrowly trailed the Greyhounds, with the score sitting at 18-20. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) led the team in points in the first quarter with five, followed by Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and Carolyn Lundy (Fair Haven, NJ/St. John Vianney) with four. Warren recorded two rebounds and Evanosky tallied two assists and a steal. Lizzie Lustig led Moravian in scoring with eight points as well as in rebounds with five. Wilkes went on a 10-6 run to finish out the first quarter, with three pointers made by Evanosky and Emma Stout (Bangor, PA/Bangor) to inch the Colonels closer to the lead.
At the half, the Colonels were still sitting closely behind the Greyhounds, with the score at 39-31. Warren took the lead in points, adding six in the second quarter as well as adding three rebounds. Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) recorded two assists while Evanosky and Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) each tallied one. Lustig added four more points for Moravian, and Sam Osario recorded six total points and five total rebounds in the first half. At the end of the first half, Wilkes was shooting 10-28 from the field, 3-10 on three point shot attempts and 8-11 from the free throw line.
After three quarters, the Greyhounds led 66-41 over the Colonels. Moravian went on a 19-2 run in the third quarter to establish a strong lead, with Lustig adding six more points in the third quarter. The game concluded with a final score of 59-84, with Warren and Matos leading the team in scoring with Warren totaling 12 points and Matos tallying 11. Warren also totaled seven rebounds, while Matos led with five assists and two steals. In the second half, the Colonels shot 9-27 from the field, 3-9 on three point shot attempts and 7-11 from the free throw line.
The Colonels conclude their season this Saturday on the road at Goucher. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
