Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Records First Win of 2025 with 18-1 Victory over Pitt Bradford
EDWARDSVILLE –
Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and
Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) combined for 17 points to lead the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team to an 18-1 non-conference victory over visiting Pitt Bradford Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes records its first win of the 2025 season evening its overall mark at 1-1. Pitt Bradford dropped to 0-2 on the year.
Wilkes wasted little time taking the lead as
Jackson Casper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) took a pass from
Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and scored the Colonels first goal of the game at 14:27.
Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) made it 2-0 at 10:10 as he found the back of the net off a helper from
Michael Rauch (Jackson, NJ/Jackson). Just seven seconds later,
Matthew Mosey (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) took the faceoff draw and scored his first collegiate goal to make it 3-0 Wilkes. The brothers connection of Austin and
Stone Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) made it 4-0 before Hartka added his second of the frame with another assist from A. Sosnovik with three minutes left in the opening frame.
Matthew Rotolo (Long Island, NY/St. John the Baptist) finished off the six-goal quarter with a strike off an assist from
Oscar Cline (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) with 1:21 on the clock.
The Colonels continued their offensive attack with five more goals over the second 15 minutes of play as Hartka pushed his total to four goals in the game. S. Sosnovik and Casper added their second goals of the contest while A. Sosnovik cashed in with 7:45 left in the first half to make it 11-0 Wilkes at the break.
After Pitt Braford scored its lone goal early in the third quarter, Wilkes responded with four answered tallies over the final eleven minutes of the frame as Cline (2), Hartka and A. Sosnovik scored for the Colonels as the lead grew to 15-1.
Bradley Smith (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area), S. Sosnovik and Casper rounded out the Colonels scoring in the fourth on way to the 17-point home victory.
Wilkes outshot Pitt Bradford 61-21 with 41 coming on goal. The Colonels also dominated the faceoff circle winning 19-of-23 draws.
Sosnovik finished with two goals and a career-best nine assists while Hartka followed with five goals and one helper. Cline added two goals and three assists while Casper and S. Sosnovik finished with three goals each.
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) and
Nicholas DeVitis (Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) split time in goal for Wilkes combining for 12 saves.
Wilkes continues its home stretch to open the season on Wednesday when the Colonels welcome Marywood University for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
