Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Earns 3-1 Win at LVC
HERSHEY, PA – The Wilkes University men's ice hockey team raced out to a 2-0 lead after two periods and added an empty net goal in the third on way to a 3-1 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over host Lebanon Valley College Friday night.
Wilkes improved to 13-7-2 overall and 13-3-2 in league games while LVC dropped to 6-13-1 overall and 5-10-1 in MAC contests.
Miles Harrington (McDonough, GA) got the Colonels on the board first when he scored on the power play off assists from
Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC) and
Joe Johnson (Midland, MI) 14:18 into the first period.
The Wilkes advantage grew to 2-0 after two thanks to
Easton Stafford (Broomfield, CO) depositing a goal off a helper from
Luke Dobles (Spencerport, NY) 3:27 into the frame.
LVC made things interesting early in the third period when the Dutchmen scored 6:51 into the period to cut the deficit in half. Wilkes ended any hopes of a comeback when
Joe Johnson (Midland, MI) scored in the empty net with :42 remaining in the game.
The teams each had 31 shots in the contest while LVC claimed two more faceoff wins in a evenly played game through the statistics.
Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) finished with 30 saves in net for Wilkes to record the win. Chris Branch made 28 stops for LVC in the loss.
Wilkes takes to the road tomorrow (Saturday) for another MAC matchup at Arcadia University starting at 3:30 p.m.
