Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Ties with Arcadia, Wins Shootout on DIFD Mental Health Awareness Day

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's ice hockey team took sole possession of first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference at the Toyota SportsPlex on Saturday afternoon, picking up a shootout victory over Arcadia University.

Wilkes moves to 16-4-1 overall on the year with a 14-2-1 record in MAC play (45 pts), while Arcadia move to 16-3-3 on the year with a 14-2-2 record in MAC play (44 pts).

The game remained scoreless through the entirety of regulation. The Colonels had the most shots on goal land in the second period with eight, while the Knights fired off 11 in the third, denied each time by Audrey Milne (London, ON). Wilkes had a chance to take the game in second overtime after the Knights were hit with a penalty for too many men on the ice but were unable to find a goal. As the horn sounded, the two MAC contenders headed to a shootout to fight for the top spot in the conference.

Milne opened the period for Wilkes with a fantastic save, while Savannah Maxon scored on the other end. Arcadia's second shooter lost control of the puck and was not able to register a shot, leaving it to Danielle Longuemare (Pembroke, MA/Portsmouth Abbey School) to seal first place for the Colonels.

Milne led the Colonels in net with 23 total saves and the shutout, while Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) and Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) led in shots with four each. Laitinen also led the team from the faceoff circle going 11-6.

Prior to the game, Wilkes held a ceremonial puck drop with University President Dr. Greg Cant as a part of their Do It For Daron (DIFD) Mental Health Awareness game.
