Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Bested by Hood in Non-Conference Home Contest
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Hood College broke open the game with nine unanswered goals in the third quarter on way to an 18-3 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes fell to 2-5 overall following the home defeat while Hood remained unbeaten standing 5-0 on the season.
After Hood struck first with a goal just under two minutes into the game,
Stone Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) tied the score with an unassisted tally at 10:08 in the first quarter.
Hood rallied for five straight goals to take a five goal advantage before
Oscar Cline (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) took a pass from
Matthew Rotolo (Long Island, NY/St. John the Baptist) and found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 6-2 with 8:59 left in the second quarter.
The Blazers then scored 12 straight goals including nine in the third quarter before Rotolo scored off a
Vinny Santoro (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa Park) assist with 4:48 left in the game.
Hood held a 55-26 shot advantage while posting 50 ground balls to Wilkes' 22. The Colonels struggled clearing the ball finishing 13-for-22 in clearing attempts.
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) started in goal and played the first half making seven saves while
Nicholas DeVitis (Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) entered in the third quarter and played the final 30 minutes posting 12 saves.
Wilkes returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference road matchup at Alvernia University starting at 7:00 p.m.
