Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls at Moravian
BETHLEHEM, PA – Host Moravian University scored 12 first quarter goals on way to a 26-2 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team in both teams' conference opener Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field.
Wilkes fell to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in league games. Moravian improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in conference contests.
Moravian wasted little time taking the lead as the Greyhounds six times in the first five minutes of the first quarter on ay to a big 12-0 lead after one. The hosts added four more goals in the second quarter to take a 16-0 advantage at the break.
Mara Adams (Mehoopany, PA/Tunkhannock Area) scored the Colonels first goal of the game with a free position strike with 10:54 on the third quarter clock.
Morgan Foytack (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) added a man-down goal off a
Halie Albright (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) assist to make it 18-2 Moravian with :44 left in the third quarter.
Moravian scored eight more unanswered goals in the final frame on way to its first conference win of the season.
Moravian outshot Wilkes 40-8 in the game. The Colonels finished 11-for-15 in clearing attempts while collecting 13 total ground balls.
Brooklynn Donia (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) finished with eight saves in goal for Wilkes.
Wilkes returns home Wednesday for a non-conference contest against King's College scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
