Wilkes Baseball Suffers Landmark Setback at Lycoming College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Wilkes University baseball team suffered their second Landmark Conference setback of the season, falling to Lycoming College on the road 5-2 Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels fall to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in Landmark play, while the Warriors improve to 11-9 with a 3-2 record in conference play.

Wilkes opened the scoring in the second inning as Gavin Lacoe's (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) single to center field scored Jacob Cambria (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia). Lacoe crossed the plate in the next at-bat thanks to Matthew Show's (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) single to the same spot.

In the home half of the second Lycoming cut the lead with a solo home run and tied it in the third with a single up the middle. The score remained deadlocked at 2-2 until the sixth inning, where a two-run home run gave the hosts a 4-2 lead. A single to right field in the eighth added the final run of the game, giving the Warriors the 5-2 victory.

Ethan Grodack (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Wayne) (0-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in two innings of relief with three strikeouts. Caleb Graham (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) went five innings for the Colonels allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

At the plate, Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas), Cambria, and Andres Cruz (Wayne, PA/Radnor) each had multi-hit games with two each. With his first hit of the day, Luksic eclipsed the 100-hit mark for his career.

Jake Wilber (4-2) pitched six innings for Lycoming, Grayson Rinker picking up the save. Danny DeLucas led the offense going 2-4 with one run.

The Colonels take the field again on Saturday, March 29 as they kick off a weekend series at Catholic University with a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
