Wilkes Softball Sweep Catholic to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play
EDWARDSVILLE - The Wilkes softball team completed a two game sweep of Catholic on Saturday to increase to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in Landmark play.

Game 1 | Wilkes 6, Catholic 1
A strong third inning for the Colonels secured their 6-1 victory over the Cardinals in game one of the day, with all six of Wilkes' runs coming in the second and third innings. Olivia Dougher (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) scored the first run of the day in the bottom of the second off a sacrifice fly to right field by Allyson Stafursky (Eynon, PA/Valley View). Kayla Burleson (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) added the second run of the inning off a single through the left side by Maddy Maloney (Scranton, PA/West Scranton).Â
Talia Piragas (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge) scored the third run of the game in the bottom of the third after Dougher grounded out to the Cardinals shortstop. Burleson brough Hannah Boyd (Escalon, CA/Escalon) home with a single to center field and Paige Randazzo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) off a double to right center field by Satfursky. Burleson brought home the final run of the game off a single to second by Maloney to round off the runs for the Colonels.Â
Catholic scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth with a double down the right field line to bring Sam Grillo in to get the Cardinals on the board.
Mia Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) pitched a full game in the circle for the Colonels, recording three strikeouts and allowing just one run on six hits.Â

Game 2 | Wilkes 2, Catholic 0
The Colonels completed their second Landmark sweep of the season with a 2-0 win in game two, with Colonel runs being scored in the fourth and fifth innings.Â
Boyd recorded the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth off a single up the middle by Dougher. Stafurksy scored the second run in the following inning off a fly out to left field by Piragas to conclude the scoring for game two.Â
Randazzo recorded six putouts while Boyd had five. In the circle, Lauren DeMarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) pitched a complete game, recording five strikeouts while allowing no runs on seven hits.Â
The Colonels will be traveling to Misericordia tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Cougars. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
