Wilkes Men's Tennis Topples King's 5-2
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team scored wins in all three doubles matches then took four of six singles flights on way to a 5-2 victory over host King's College in a non-conference dual match Sunday afternoon at the Kirby Park Courts.
Wilkes saw its overall mark improve to 4-3 on the season following the victory.
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) and Okoh Otarhe won at No. 1 doubles 6-2 followed by a 6-4 victory by
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) at No. 2 pairs.
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) and
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) finished off the team points for Wilkes with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Rathe won 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Otarhe went 6-2, 6-2 for the win at No. 4. Frey (6-1, 4-6, 10-5) and Nguyen (6-2, 6-0) rounded out the singles winners for the Colonels at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
Wilkes returns to Landmark Conference play Wednesday when the Colonels travel to Drew University for a match starting at 4:00 p.m.
