Wilkes Baseball Defeats Moravian 10-6

EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Wilkes baseball team took the first game of their weekend series against Moravian with a 10-6 win on Saturday, increasing to 20-8 overall and 13-3 in conference play.

The Greyhounds took the early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. The first run was scored off a single to left field and the second was scored off a sacrifice fly. The Colonels tied the game in the following two innings, with Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) scoring a run in the second and Jack Mathis (Exeter PA/Wyoming Area) scoring in the third after a single to center field by Luke Spencer (Lehman, PA/Lake Lehman)

A home run by the Greyhounds in the bottom of the fifth allowed them to regain the lead, but Wilkes responded in the fifth with two more runs to make it 4-3. Spencer scored after a double down the left field line by Luksic and Luksic scored off a double to left center field by Jacob Cambria (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia)

Moravian tied it again with a run scored after a foul out to left field in the bottom of the fifth, but Wilkes answered with six runs across two innings to take a strong lead over the Greyhounds. Luke Kraszewski (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) scored off a single to right center by Nate Loch and Loch and Mathis scored off a single down the right field line by Cambria to close out the sixth inning.

In the eighth, Mathis and Loch scored off another single by Cambria, this time to center field, and Cambria recorded a run of his own to round off the top of the eighth inning.

Moravian added two more runs, one in the bottom of the eighth and a second in the ninth, but it was not enough to overtake the Colonels. The two runs were scored off a ground out to third and a sacrifice fly to left field.

On the mound, Zachary Lloyd (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) picked up the win, pitching five innings and recording four strikeouts. Ethan Grodack (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Wayne) recorded a save after pitching in relief for four innings and had two strikeouts.

The Colonels will continue their weekend series against the Greyhounds tomorrow, April 13, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
