Wilkes Softball Drops Contest to Lebanon Valley
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University softball team hosted Lebanon Valley College at the Ralston Athletic Complex Tuesday night, falling 2-0 in game one of the day, with the second game canceled due to weather delays in game one.
Wilkes falls to 11-11 on the year, while Lebanon Valley improves to 18-10 overall.
The Colonels registered nine hits on the day but were unable to plate a run. The only scoring of the day came in the top of the third inning, as the Flying Dutchmen hit a two-run home run to left field.
Wilkes didn't go without a fight, rallying in the seventh with two singles, but were unable to find a run before the final out.
Talia Piragas (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge) and
Paige Randazzo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) led the Colonels at the plate with three hits, while
Olivia Dougher (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) had two. In the circle,
Tessa Stafursky (Eynon, PA/Valley View) (1-2) was given the decision pitching 5.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits.
Lauren DeMarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished the game pitching the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Four Dutchmen registered hits, with Holly Grube (9-4) picking up the win in the circle.
Wilkes wore pink jerseys and socks this game as a part of the celebrations of the day's NFCA Strikeout Cancer game.
The Colonels return to action on Thursday, April 17 as they travel to face Juniata College in Landmark Conference play, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
