Wilkes Men's Tennis Posts 5-2 Landmark Win Over Scranton
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team posted its second Landmark Conference victory of the season after besting the University of Scranton 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in Landmark matches. Scranton dropped to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in league contests.
Scranton began the match with a 1-0 lead taking No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the team point.
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) and
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) earned a 6-2 victory at No. 3 pairs for the Colonels.
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) won 6-4, 2-2, retired over Max Dombowski at No. 1 singles followed by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory by
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) at No. 2.
Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee) won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3 and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and Nguyen each took their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively in straight sets to clinch the match for Wilkes.
Wilkes is back in action on Saturday when the Colonels host Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
