Wilkes Men's Tennis Blanks Lycoming
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team earned a 7-0 Landmark Conference victory over visiting Lycoming College Thursday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in league matches while Lycoming remained winless at 0-15 overall and 0-8 in conference contests.
The Colonels took two of three matches in doubles play to earn the team point. Coley Riley and Okoh Otarhe took their No. 1 doubles match 6-1 while
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) won 6-2 at No. 2 pairs.
Wilkes then swept all six singles flights in straight sets on way to its third conference win of the season staying alive for postseason play. Rathe won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 followed by Riley with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Okoh won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Donozan Zong (No. 4), Frey (No. 5) and
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) (No. 6) rounded out the singles winners for Wilkes.
Wilkes concludes Landmark play on Saturday with a road match at Juniata College scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
