Wilkes Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Landmark Win Over Lycoming
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team kept its postseason hopes alive with an important 6-1 Landmark Conference victory Thursday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
The Colonels improved to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in league matches while Lycoming dropped to 8-8 overall and remained winless at 0-8 in conference contests.
Wilkes took two of three doubles flights on way to the team point.
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) and
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) teamed to win 6-3 at No. 2 while
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) and
Breanna Herdine (Haslet, TX) won 6-0 at No. 3 pairs.
In singles play, Wilkes won all but No. 6 singles as Amerise was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 1 and Spaeth a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 2. Edmond won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 while Isabel Screffler (6-2, 6-2) and
Sydney Farmer (Lacey Township, NJ/Lacey Township) (6-0, 6-0) both were straight set winners to round out the Colonels singles players.
Wilkes concludes Landmark play on Saturday with a road match at Juniata College scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
