Wilkes Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Susquehanna
EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Wilkes baseball team dropped their Saturday doubleheader against Susquehanna, falling in game one 5-9 and game two 5-7.
Game 1 | Wilkes 5, Susquehanna 9
The scoring began for the River Hawks in the second inning with a run scored after a single to center field, followed by two more runs scored in the third inning off a single to left center field.
Wilkes got on the board in the fourth inning, with Andres Cruz (Wayne, PA/Radnor) and Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) scoring off a double to center field by Devin Markert (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) to make it a 3-2 game.
Susquehanna added a fourth run in the fifth off a double to right center field, and Trehnon Hugo (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing) scored for Wilkes in the seventh off a sacrifice fly to center field by Luke Spencer (Lehman, PA/Lake Lehman).
The River Hawks added five runs in the eighth inning to take a dominant lead over the Colonels. In the ninth inning, Gannon Decker (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) scored after a single to left center by Jack Mathis (Exeter PA/Wyoming Area) and Mathis scored off a walk by Cruz with the bases loaded.
On the mound, Zachary Lloyd (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) pitched five innings, recording four strikeouts and Riley Jagger (Hop Bottom, PA/Mountain View) pitched for 2.2 innings also recording four strikeouts.
Game 2 | Wilkes 5, Susquehanna 7
Wilkes took the lead to start game two, with Nathan Loch (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) recording the first run for the Colonels after a sacrifice fly out by Luksic. The River Hawks tied the game in second, with a run also scored off a sacrifice fly.
The Colonels scored two more runs in the fourth inning to regain the lead. Spencer scored after a hit by Jacob Carmbia and Cambria scored off a double to left field by Chase Vrabel (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland).
Susquehanna had a strong fifth inning, recording three runs to take the lead. The three runs were scored off a single to left field, a double to center field and an infield single. The River Hawks added two more runs in the seventh, with the runs being scored off a wild pitch and a double down the left field line.
With one more run in the eighth inning, Susquehanna made it 7-2 after scoring off a sacrifice fly out to left field. The Colonels scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth, with Cruz scoring off a ground out by Markert and Cambria scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.
On the mound, Hunter Lawall (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) pitched 5.1 innings, and record seven strikeouts while allowing four runs on eight hits.
The Colonels continue their series against the River Hawks tomorrow, Sunday, April 27 with the game beginning at 12 p.m.
