Box Score Wilkes Baseball Defeats Susquehanna 6-4 to Complete Weekend Series
EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Wilkes baseball team completed their weekend series against Susquehanna, defeating the River Hawks 6-4.
The River Hawks took an early lead over the Colonels, scoring three runs in the first inning. The runs were scored off of a single to left field, a double to center field, and a sacrifice fly out to right field.
Wilkes added three runs of their own to tie the game in the fourth inning. Devin Markert (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) scored off a sacrifice fly out to center field by Gavin Lacoe (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Jacob Cambria (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia) and Trehnon Hugo (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing) scored after Nathan Loch (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) hit a triple to left center field to even the score.
The Colonels took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Markert scoring his second run of the day off a double to left field by Cambria to bring the score to 4-3. Wilkes added two more runs after a double to left center by Michael Sabella (Cornelius, NC/Hough) bringing Matthew Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Cambria home.
Susquehanna recorded an additional run in the eighth inning during a pick off between first and second to make it 4-6 with Wilkes still in the lead.
On the mound,Caleb Graham (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) and Ethan Jezewski (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) each pitched three innings and both recorded two strikeouts. AJ Levandoski (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) pitched in relief for the Colonels, recording two strikeouts and one hit to help secure the 6-4 win.
The Colonels will play their final home game of the season this Tuesday, April 29, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
