Lycoming Uses Big Third Quarter on Way to 13-7 Victory Over Wilkes Men's Lacrosse
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Lycoming College scored seven goals in the third quarter and held on to a 13-7 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
With the loss Wilkes stands 4-10 overall and 1-5 in Landmark games. Lycoming improved to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in conference contests
 
Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) put the Colonels on the board first with an unassisted goal less than a minute into the game. Lycoming responded tying the game with 12:15 on the clock. One minute later the Warriors took their first advantage of the contest when Shayne Wilson scored unassisted. After the Lycoming lead grew to 3-1, DelDuca fired in his second goal of the quarter as the Warriors led 3-2 after one.
 
Lycoming scored the only two goals of the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead into the break.
 
From there the Warriors outscored Wilkes 7-3 over the third quarter to push its lead to 12-5 with one period left to play. DelDuca scored two more times in the frame and Stone Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) added a man-up tally.
 
S. Sosnovik added his second goal in the fourth quarter off an assist from brother Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) finished off the Colonels scoring with a strike with 3:04 left in the final frame.
 
Lycoming held a 53-38 shot advantage while claiming 49 ground balls to the Colonels 38. DelDuca topped the offense with four goals while A. Sosnovik finished with four assists.
 
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) finished with 15 saves in net for Wilkes while Ben Franco made 17 stops for Lycoming in the victory.
 
Wilkes returns to Landmark play Saturday with a road test at Susquehanna University starting at 12:00 p.m.
