Wilkes Women's Soccer Draws in Home Opener Against King's College

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's soccer team battled King's College to a scoreless draw Wednesday night, their first home game of the season at Bruggeworth Field.

Wilkes sits at 2-1-1 on the year, while King's left the Ralston Athletic Complex with a  1-3-1 record.

The Colonels got off to a hot start as Maggie Allen (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) forced a save from goalkeeper Courtney Monard in the second minute. By the 19th minute, Wilkes put three shots on goal to the Monarch's two, but neither team was able to find the net by half time.

Both teams remained evenly matched through the second half, with the Colonels surviving two late chances by the Monarchs to keep the game even at the final whistle.

Wilkes out-shot King's 8-7 and picked up their third consecutive clean sheet in the draw.

Jess Shea (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) led the Colonels with two shots on goal, with Allen, Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and Taylor Anthony (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) also putting balls on target. In goal, Ava Long (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) made five saves and kept the clean sheet.

Jessica Juarez led the Monarchs with two shots on goal as well, while Monard saved four shots.

The Colonels return to Bruggeworth Field for their next contest as they take on Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m.
