Creswell and Volpone of Wilkes Football Named Landmark Athletes of the Week
TOWSON, Md. – Wilkes University football student-athletes
Cohen Creswell (Winchester, VA/Millbrook) and
Nick Volpone (Delco, PA/Ridley) were named Landmark Conference Defensive Player and Specialist of the Week respectively, as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
This marks the first time that both players have been selected for Landmark weekly awards.
Creswell helped seal Wilkes' 24-21 with the game-ending strip sack of Montclair State quarterback Luke Henrich as he loaded up a shot deep downfield. The sophomore defensive lineman led the team with 10 total tackles and two for loss, sitting top five in the conference in total tackles with 39 through four games. His eight tackles for loss are the most in the Landmark.
Before Creswell's strip sack, it was the senior Volpone's 26-yard field goal with 41 seconds remaining to give the Colonels the lead. The Delco native was also 3/3 on extra point kicks on the night. Volpone leads the Landmark with four field goals and has kicked the game-winning ball in each of Wilkes' two victories this season.
Creswell, Volpone and the rest of the Colonels return to Schmidt Stadium for their next contest against Catholic University on Saturday, October 4
th as they welcome the Cardinals for Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
