Early Goal Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer to First Win of the Season at William Patterson

WAYNE, N.J. – Sarah Straup's (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) first career goal helped the Wilkes University women's soccer team to its first win of the 2025 season, defeating William Patterson University 1-0 at Pioneer Soccer Park Wednesday night.

Wilkes improves to 1-1 on the season, while William Patterson falls to 1-1 overall.

Straup fired home the game's lone goal in the seventh minute, off an assist from Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen). The Colonels had the majority of the offensive chances in the first half, outshooting the Pioneers four to two.

Wilkes maintained their offensive effort with another four shots but were unable to find an insurance goal. A clean sheet by first-year goalkeeper Molly Dietsch (Fishtown, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) helped keep the Colonels in the win column in her debut between the sticks for the blue and gold.

Straup led the Colonels with two shots on target and the decisive goal on the night. Six other players registered shots as Wilkes finished the night with eight total shots, putting six on target. In goal, Dietsch made three saves to pick up the clean sheet.

The Colonels close their three-game road trip this Saturday, September 6 as they travel to face Alvernia University at 3:00 p.m.
