Wilkes Men's Wrestling Goes 2-1 at 2026 PA/NY Duals
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's wrestling team picked up a pair of victories at the 2026 PA/NY Duals hosted by the Colonels inside the Marts Center Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes claimed a first round win over Hunter College 35-14 before making it two straight with a 29-21 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy. In the final match of the day, Wilkes fell to No. 20 New York University (NYU) 42-7.
Wilkes moved to 4-7 overall in dual matches on the season following the three-match event.
Thomas Longo (Montville, NJ/Montville) began the match with Hunter with a fall over Muhamadu Konteh in 5:52 at 125-pounds. After Hunter tied the match with a fall at 133-pounds, The Colonels put the match out of reach with five straight extra-point wins.
Wilfred Jimenz (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) started with a 15-7 major decision at 141-pounds, followed by another major decision from
Ryan Santiago (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) 14-4 at 149-pounds. At 157-pounds
Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) earned a fall in 2:41 and
Colton Thorpe (Southington, CT/Southington) added another fall in 1:47 at 165-pounds.
Omari Watson (Clayton, NJ/Clayton) finished off the scoring run with a fall over Therrol Lafayette in 6:41 at 174-pounds.
Trevor Gitski (Alburtis, PA/Emmaus) finished off the Wilkes scoring with a 4-2 decision at heavyweight in the win.
In the second win of the day, Wilkes won six of ten bouts with five coming with extra points.
Connor Kerwin (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) pinned Charles Case in 4:36 at 133-pounds followed by a fall from Jimenz in 4:36 at 141-pounds. Santiago added his second win of the day with a 16-1 technical fall while Hartranft did the same with an 18-3 technical fall.
Colton Thorpe (Southington, CT/Southington) bested Jacob Wilson by major decision 9-1 and Gitski sealed the win with an 8-3 decision over Jonathan Harris at heavyweight.
Santiago and Hartranft were the lone winners in the defeat against ranked NYU. Santiago earned a 7-2 decision over John Mairano while Hartranft took a 15-3 major decision over Robert Leeds.
The Colonels are back in action next Sunday when they host the John Reese Duals at 11:00 a.m. in the Marts Center.
