Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Hudakova’s Two Goals Leads Women’s Ice Hockey Past Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team was back in action on Friday night, in an away match against Alvernia University. Led by a two-goal performance from Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School), the Colonels secured a 3-1 victory, their 10th Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory in a row.

Following the win, the Colonels improved to 14-1-1 (12-1-0 MAC), while Alvernia fell to 8-7-0 (7-6-0 MAC).
Hudakova found the back of the net for the game's first goal just over four minutes in with assists from Abby Bush (Ottawa, ON) and Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/)

Wilkes' special teams were perfect in the first period, with a power play goal from Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic), and later a strong penalty kill late on in the opening frame which carried on into the early stages of the middle period.

Hudakova found twine once more, this time less than three minutes into the second period. Bouchard recorded her second assist of the night on the play.

From there, the Colonel defense dug in and defended their three goal advantage until Alvernia finally got a goal, albeit a late tally at 19:43 into the third period. Noelle De Magistris notched the tally that proved to be a late consolation for the home side.

Between the pipes for the Colonels, Audrey Milne (London, ON) recorded a strong 27-save performance, including 11 stops in the third period. Hudakova's four shots on goal shared the team lead with Drew Hayhurst (Breckenridge, CO/New Hampton School). Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY/) recorded 12 wins on 16 faceoffs, leading both teams in that category.

In goal for Alvernia, Juju Rodgers made 31 saves in the loss. Erin Schutt recorded five shots on goal.

The Colonels return to the ice tomorrow, Jan. 24 for their second matchup of the early weekend with Alvernia. Puck drop against the Golden Wolves is set for 2 p.m. from Body Zone in Reading, Pa.
