Three-Goal Third Lifts Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to Win Over Lebanon Valley

WILKES-BARRE - Three goals in the third period helped lift the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to a massive Middle Atlantic Conference win Friday evening at the Toyota SportsPlex, defeating the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchman 4-2.

Wilkes improves to 10-6-3 on the year and 7-6-2 in MAC play, while Lebanon Valley falls to 5-12-2 overall and 5-8-2 against conference opponents.

After a scoreless first period, the visitors struck first early in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA/) responded for the Colonels on the power play with just under nine minutes played, tying the game at 1-1. Despite a tremendous five-on-three penalty kill from the Colonels in this period, Lebanon Valley was able to find the back of the net in the final minute of play to take the lead into the final period.

Jack Lee (Naperville, IL) lit the lamp less than two minutes into the third period to bring Wilkes level once more, and Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/) netted the game-winning goal at the 6:28 mark that put the Navy and Gold ahead 3-2. In the final minute, Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) fired home an empty-net goal that secured the win for the Colonels.

Carlson and Lee each had three-point evenings netting one goal and assisting two, while Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) led all players with nine total shots. In goal, Jeffrey Fillion (Chicoutimi, QC) played all 60 minutes and made 26 saves.

Cameron Croteau led the Dutchmen with five total shots and was one of two goalscorers. Chris Branch made 46 saves between the pipes.

Wilkes returns to the ice tomorrow for a crucial MAC contest against conference-leading Stevenson University in the Julia "Hockey" Mazur memorial game at the Toyota SportsPlex. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
